Grab bar installation provides mobility, disabilities, neurological disorders, and aging seniors the freedom to use the shower/tub in a safe capacity. Atlantic Healthcare Products & Medical Supply not only sell and install grab bars; we also provide in-home safety assessments to make aging in place a safer environment.

Safety Starts In The Bathroom

More falls occur in bathrooms than in any other room in the home; there are more emergency calls for falls in the bathrooms than all emergency calls combined. The surfaces are slippery when wet or steamy; there is more turning in the bathrooms' small space, creating a high chance of falls. It is most likely catastrophic if you fall since hard ceramic surfaces, jagged edges, and smaller areas. That’s why safety in the bathroom is of the utmost importance.

Grab Bars to Prevent Slips, Trips, and Falls

Grab bars are safety devices designed to enable a person to maintain balance, lessen fatigue while standing, hold some of their weight while maneuvering or have something to grab onto in case of a slip or fall. A caregiver may use a grab bar to assist with transferring a patient from one place to another.

There is an extra high fall rate that occurs in bathrooms for senior adults as well as those who live with mobility challenges. Showering, as well as rising and sitting on toilets, are simple everyday activities which can become dangerous without proper safety precautions. Atlantic Healthcare Products carries their dedication to helping people move about safely and more independently straight into the bathroom with our wide variety of grab bars.

Which Grab Bars Do I Need?

We carry a full line of heavy-duty bathroom grab bars including any size, of any color, made of a variety of materials to match your need and décor. Our accessibility professionals make sure to help you with the right selection for your particular need. We also install them according to ADA standards to ensure the highest level of safety. We install both vertical and horizontal grab bars where needed.

The wet floors of bathrooms are prime locations for slips and falls which can result in injury or even death. Properly installed bathroom grab bars can give support getting in and out of showers and tubs, as well as offer stability while transferring to and from a shower chair.

Where Else Should I Install Grab Bars?

Bathroom Grab Bars are also a necessity for toilets. They can be used to transfer safely to toilet from a wheelchair or walker. Rising from a seated position is often very challenging. Properly installed grab bars make rising easier—offering more safety and independence. Let Atlantic Healthcare Products bring a new level of safety and mobility to one of the most dangerous areas of your home or business with bathroom grab bars.

The purpose of a grab bar is for safety in and around the bathroom. Gab bars come in many different lengths, and there are many styles. However, our focus is on types that have a grip when needing to hold on. Grab bars are not only installed for older adults who are lightheaded anymore, but for handicap, young children, and injured persons as well.

Can I purchase grab bars from you?

Yes, you may purchase your grab and pay for the installation online at Atlantic Healthcare Products

Times have changed. Today, you’ll find grab bars in fancy private homes and hotels. And you’ll swear that no two look the same. Some are straight, while others are curvy. Some attach to the wall at both ends. You can move others out of the way when you’re done with them. And grab bars now come in enough colors to satisfy every decorator.

There are different types of bathroom grab bars based on their functions, structure, and installation, and the sizes range from 12 inches to 30 inches.

Please choose from our large selection of sizes and finishes, including chrome, brass, and stainless steel. We professionally install customized grab bars in your shower, toilet, and tub. Grab bars can be installed on various surfaces such as tile, marble, or on a wall stud. The most effective grab bars are diamond cut and knurled for safety, so soap scum does not stick on the safety bar.

Our Installation Specialists have experience with seniors, mobility issues, and home safety. They are highly qualified and can help you choose and securely install a grab bar practically anywhere in your home or business, even when no stud is present.

Are suction grab bars Safe?

Suction grab bars are safe when used properly. Grab bars that suction to the walls are not meant to hold much weight as they can easily slide down the wall or fall off completely. Although they have their benefits, we highly recommend grab bars that install into the wall. Grab bars installed into the wall are safer and more weight bearing.

If you're unsure, our highly experienced grab bar installation specialists can look at the challenge and recommend what's best for your situation.

Will Medicare pay for grab bars?

No, Medicare and most private insurance plans don't pay for grab bars. Medicaid will pay for one grab bar per recipient.

Where should grab bars be placed?

The short answer is everywhere you need them. Furthermore, you should always be within arms reach of a grab bar. It largely depends on the size and layout of your bathroom.

Grab bars can be installed on the back wall and control wall of the shower stall. The ADA recommends that two bars be installed on the back wall, one 8 to 10 inches from the rim of the tub and the other parallel to it 33 to 36 inches from the base of the tub.

In toilets and showers, the tops of horizontal grab bars need to be 33 to 36 inches from the floor. In a transfer shower, the bottom of the vertical bar must be 3 to 6 inches above the horizontal bar on that wall. The problem is that installers often aim for one edge of the range, and end up a bit high or low.
